Do you want to know what investment firms look for when they’re looking for a business? Krystof Bartos is an investor with a vast portfolio of companies with over $500,000 in revenue. He joins Nana on Build Value By Choice this week to tell you what he looks for when he is looking for a business to invest in and how you can make your business more attractive to potential buyers.
The initial conversations Krystof has with his potential clients is just to understand what they want and why they want to sell. The in depth financial stuff comes later on, so it can be worth having a conversation before you’re ready to sell.
One reason to sell is that there is a distress in the business, but these businesses are usually less valuable and the investor will have to find the value in it. The more attractive acquisition would be of a company with an owner who just wants to leave or unfortunately has some medical reason why they want to leave.
Krystof uses minor adjustments in the business. If you have 10 to 20% margins, he can usually change that to 50 to 100% by optimizing sales processes.
The due diligence process varies in time depending what they find, and if what they find after 3 to 6 months is not good, then the offered price can drop.
