32: Interview With Tom Gledhill Part 1

Tom Gledhill has founded, built and sold multiple companies during his career as a business owner. He is a former M&A Advisor and the author of best selling books “The Big Transfer” and “Xit Pro System”. Tom joins Nana on Build Value By Choice this week for part 1 of an interview to talk about himself and the work he has done in the industry. Stay tuned for part 2 coming soon where Tom will discuss what business owners can do to unlock value they might not know is there.

When someone has a small business they have two things. They have an income and they have an asset.
Tom, a US Army veteran, holds a BS in Electrical Engineering from the University of Maine and an MBA from Boston College. Tom is a Certified Business Intermediary (CBI).
Tom has been in the trenches founding, building, and eventually selling his small businesses. He understands a business owner’s day to day stress – satisfying customers and staff, meeting payroll, and concern about future sales.
He has combined his experience from building and selling his companies and helping many other business owners sell their companies, to develop the XITpro System to help business owners increase the value of their company, make more money, and make their business more salable.
At the time Tom was working in healthcare software there was no understanding of exit planning and mergers. If he hadn’t been in a good industry then it would have been impossible to get the attention of big investors.
The whole negotiating process took over a year to complete. Tom had to keep the company ticking over while he was brokering the deal because any drop in performance would impact the negotiations.
Before you get into business, do your research, knowing what markets are in demand was Tom’s biggest success.

‘We were in the software market and that was a hot market’

‘I did my research and decided healthcare would be a good bet’

‘We didn’t start of in the same ballpark, we had to really negotiate for a price we could live with’

‘It’s not always about money when the human side is involved’

‘I always knew that I was growing an asset as I grew the company’
